Dedicated to a strong, professional Foreign Service

Representing United States’ citizens and promoting the nation’s interests to the world, the men and women of the Foreign Service are the backbone of America’s diplomacy and its first line of defense.

The Una Chapman Cox Foundation works with the Department of State and non-government agencies supporting the Foreign Service (FS) to implement a variety of projects. Mrs. Cox, a woman of many interests, a world traveler and a strong believer in the value of the Foreign Service to America, created the Foundation in 1980 to contribute to its work. In keeping with her vision, the Foundation focuses on recruiting and retaining the best possible cadre of career officers and educating a broad constituency to better understand, appreciate and support the Foreign Service. From professional development programs and activities, sabbaticals and scholarships to projects serving young people, minorities, scholars and teachers, the Foundation’s current support of the FS continues to honor its founder’s intent.
